A Community Center for Nosara

ConoSer plans to build a versatile Community Center in the center of Nosara, transforming it into a cultural hub. The community center will aim to unite residents and visitors by providing a secure space for activities and gatherings. Our goal is to preserve local culture before it’s lost, develop resources to share with the community, & bridge communities by creating a space for all to unite. Together, we can cultivate a community where the past, present, and future converge, creating a legacy of unity and sustainability for generations to come.

Promoting Sustainable Design & Community Engagement

By promoting sustainable design and community engagement, we aim to preserve cultural heritage and offer educational opportunities, job training, and sustainable commerce. The center will serve as a platform for integration among locals and visitors, highlighting Nosara's essence.

We aspire to create a space where knowledge is shared, relationships are nurtured, & respect for our roots & environment is upheld.

We honor the region's indigenous Chorotega heritage and are committed to passing it on through education. Affordable housing for educators and public servants will enhance education, public safety, and governmental efficiency. The centralization of non-profit organizations within the center will boost collaboration, leading to sustainable initiatives. Residents can look forward to a place for gatherings, cultural experiences, recreational activities, and commemorating local events.

Central to our vision, we honor the revered elders in Nosara, whose wisdom of a wholesome lifestyle has shaped the region into a celebrated Blue Zone. We aim to highlight their culinary heritage, preserve their rich traditions, and impart valuable teachings on living in harmony with nature and each other.

Modeling & Teaching Sustainability

  • We are committed to exemplifying sustainable practices in the construction of our community center. By utilizing sustainable materials and techniques, we aim to demonstrate the importance of environmental stewardship.

We will honor the land's integrity by incorporating trees and native plants into educational walking trails and a teaching garden with traditional medical plants honoring the traditions of the Chorotega and their descendants, the Nosareños.

Our emphasis on open-air structures will reduce reliance on energy-intensive appliances like air conditioning, aligning with our dedication to minimizing the consumption of natural resources.

Through our center, we intend to provide educational opportunities for individuals to deepen their understanding of nature conservation and environmental sustainability, fostering a lasting impact for generations to come.

Nosara Museum of Culture

  • The museum will be dedicated to honoring the indigenous Chorotega people who once inhabited this land and the enduring significance of the legend of Princess Nosara.

It will seek to preserve and celebrate the living heritage passed down from the Chorotega community, as evidenced in the local gastronomy and traditional practices.

While the Chorotega language fades into obscurity, relics of their rich culture persist, distinguishing them as a resilient and unique population within Costa Rica.

Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing Chorotega pottery, traditional crafts, and insights into their daily lives, including tales of the revered Cacique, or chief, Nicoya, after whom the peninsula is named.

Through its offerings, the museum aims to educate, commemorate, and pay tribute to both the present-day Chorotega descendants and the enduring legacy of their ancestors.

We’ll also pay tribute to present-day traditions: gastronomy and it’s tie to the Blue Zone, typical dress, family traditions, and agricultural practices.

Daily Market

  • As it stands, Nosara has yet to have a permanent daily market to ensure profits go directly to farmers and that the community buys locally. This will offer yet another opportunity for foreigners to learn from locals about their traditions as farmers and craftsmen, and to engage in an exchange from which the people from Nosara town directly profit.

Before/After School Education

  • In Nosara, the absence of resources for local youth before and after school underscores the critical need for collaborative efforts to fill this gap. Partnering with non-profit organizations dedicated to youth empowerment, we aim to provide safe and enriching pro-social activities that nurture holistic development. Through programs focused on music, theater, arts, and sports, we create inclusive spaces where young individuals can explore their passions, develop valuable skills, and forge meaningful connections with peers and mentors. We strive to cultivate a supportive community where every young person has access to opportunities for growth, learning, and personal fulfillment and can contribute positively to their community.

Traditional Café

  • Costa Rica has maintained its tradition of the soda, an open-air restaurant serving typical food at affordable prices. Most restaurants in the Nosara area are too expensive for locals and do not support the flavor and traditional food that famously gave this area the title of a Blue Zone. Before, Nosara was known for its tortillas, rosquillas, empanadas, and use of chayote which separates if from the rest of the country.

Cafe ConoSer will honor the culinary traditions and beliefs that food heals while providing an affordable dining experience to all who wish to maintain tradition, and culture, and get to know their Nosara neighbors.

Amphitheater for Events

  • Costa Rica is full of national talent, cultural events, and tradition. In Guanacaste, we celebrate the Festival of the Lights, National Independence Day, and the Day of the Annexation of Nicoya with pride. With Nosara’s growing population, we have no central place for these cultural celebrations, to maintain our traditions and share them with foreigners. An amphitheater would not only allow us to unite for holidays, it would be a place to welcome country-wide talent to a stage in Nosara.

Affordable Housing

  • Affordable housing units will be available, mainly for essential service workers such as ambulance drivers, police officers, firefighters, and teachers. This town needs this solution as an incentive to continue working for the community. The center will be a place to get to know them and appreciate the fundamental work they do for the community.

Offices for Non-profits

  • Altogether, there are 54 non-profit organizations in Nosara working in sustainability, wild and domestic animal care, and community development.

We aim to give these non-profits an office space where they can unite under one roof and have pleasant working quarters to grow stronger together.

Not only will this give the non-profits a central meeting place, but it will revolutionize their way of meeting their goals through for-profit entities that fund their initiatives and increase their impact.

Park, Playground, Walking Trails

  • Nosara town's lack of sidewalks and playgrounds underscores the importance of prioritizing safety for mothers and children. By investing in infrastructure that ensures safe pathways and designated play areas, we can cultivate a community environment that fosters both physical activity. community bonding and peace of mind for families.

Creating a sustainable for-profit model to fund the social or environmental causes of non-profits in town can revolutionize how such organizations operate and thrive. By generating revenue through this model, non-profits can establish a reliable and consistent source of funding, ensuring their longevity and maximizing their impact on the community. With a regenerative for-profit model in place, non-profits can work towards achieving their goals for years to come.
